Leadership Workshop
Boston - 15 November 2014 - Charles Hotel
Video and Audio Recordings from the Event
The first Leadership Workshop focused on promoting and refining the skills and sensitivities necessary to draw the best from all those able and willing to serve in our Armed Forces. With limited resources and a progressively complex set of missions, leaders must be able to create an environment of trust and teamwork that enables our Armed Forces to operate at its best.
West Point Cadets, Coast Guard Cadets and Navy Midshipmen, as well as graduate and undergraduate students from other Universities were present. Air Force Academy Cadets connected remotely. Army, Navy Air Force and Coast Guard leaders from junior officer to General and Admiral ranks, alumni of the service academies and local business and civic leaders, as well as distinguished members of academia, were among the participants.
The Workshop began with opening remarks from Congresswoman Niki Tsongas (D-MA 3rd District) and were followed later in the day by Janet Petro, Deputy Director, Kennedy Space Center. Also participating in the program were Rear Admiral Peg Klein, Major General Heidi Brown, Major General Jeff Snow and Major General (R) Maria Britt. After the welcome, the participants received a brief presentation from each set of discussion group leaders before the workshop break-out sessions begin. The discussion group topics were:
- Leveraging Diversity: Full integration of women into combat roles
- A Junior Leader's Role in Reversing the Epidemic of Sexual Harassment & Sexual Assault in the Military and on College Campuses
- Integrating Work & Life as a Military Spouse or Couple
- Women at the Top: Strategies to Overcome Gender Bias
- Overcoming invisible barriers to inclusion
